'Every Atom' Inspires Three Dance Pieces

Every Atom was also the inspiration behind Debora Johnson's visceral dance piece 'The Unspoken' which featured in Northen School of Contemporary Dance's VERVE 11 which toured the UK & Europe throughout the first half of 2011. The poem is also the inspiration behind 'Sacrament of Marriage' which was performed at Bradford's Cartwright Hall and was commissioned through Alchemy & London 2012.

Fragile Stories
John recently created a new piece for dancers of The Northern School Of Contemporary Dance as part of the London 2012 Cultural Programme. It was premiered at Ilkley Literature Festival.

Commissions

John frequently is commissioned to create pieces for books, film, dance, as part of projects, as evaluations and as works of art. John has created pieces for Canterbury Festival, BBC Radio, Arts Council of England, Blackpool Council, York Minster, Irwell Sculpture Trail, The Lowry and many others.

He has recently created a series of poems as part of the regeneration of the seaside town of Blackpool, and he has written a number of pieces looking at the ideas of 'The Imagined City and Migration,' for Lancaster University.

Most recently he has made works for Alchemy on 'Peace and Marriage', for The City of Canturbury as a piece of public art, and a series of pieces for Manchester Art Galleries. He created a special piece of literature and dance for Fragile Stories which is part of the London 2012 Cultural Programme.

Canterbury Poetry City

As Canterbury's Poet in the City working with WORKERS OF ART. John has for the second year running made the city his living notebook. He set out to discover the real desires and secrets in the unspken city. The poem created from these dreams was then turned to light and projected onto the walls of the Westgate Towers greeting people with art and literture as they went about their daily lives. Manchester Literature Festival/Art Gallery



'Lustre' is a series of poems in response to the Exporting Beauty exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery. The poems are available for download from Manchester Literature Festival. Two of the pieces were featured for a year on the BBC bigscreen in Manchester's Exchange Square. 

Moving Manchester
A commission by The Centre for Transcultural Writing & Research at Lancaster University to write a series of portraiture poems and take photographic portraits looking at the experience of migration into Manchester from overseas. The poems & photos are available here.

Allegories of Power
John was commissioned by Alchemy to create a two part poem in response to the idea of power in the modern world, as part of an exhibition of the same name at Cartwright Hall in Bradford.
